Youth Counselors

During the camp our youth counselors will be instrumental in implementing our behavior program which emphasizes peer mediation, as well as serving as tutors and mentors to our camp participants. Additionally, they will assist and supervise classes as well as lead their own workshops and lessons. On Fridays when our camp is closed, they will participate in full staff meetings involving the coordinators, board members, and directors. We have also set aside time on these Fridays for development activities tailored to each individual counselor’s needs. These planned activities currently include GED preparation, ACT test prep, help with college searches/applications, scholarship counseling, and remediation in academic subject areas, as well as workshops on life skills and job training. For their hard work and assistance in this summer camp the senior counselors will receive a 100 dollar weekly stipend, while junior counselors will receive a 50 dollar weekly stipend.

It is our goal to maintain mutually beneficial relationships with our junior staff, and hope that we can continue to foster their growth and provide opportunities for future employment. We would like to encourage the progress of our youth staff from junior counselors to senior counselors, and then to specific assistant coordinator and full coordinator/director positions if possible. Additionally, as we expand our youth services to include more diverse programming in the future, we hope that our junior staff can grow with us.
